Noor was born on the Space Transportation System (STS) Hine-ahu-one. She has visited other ships in the system but has never set foot on an actual planet. She would like to, some day, go back to Earth, or to a planet that is like Earth. The Earth her ancestors once inhabited has died; Noor helps to maintain its gardens and forests, her mother having grown their family's section from old seeds and propagated saplings.

Noor's official job title is arboriculturist and gardener; she maintains the Dajhe section aboard the STS Hine-ahu-one. She was taught to garden by her mother, father and extended family, and other gardeners who also live on the ship. The Hine-ahu-one houses people who all know and share this expertise with each other — Noor is currently learning silviculture, so she can maintain the ship's forests. She likes being 'outside' and working with her hands in the soil.

• Earth is declared 'dead' in 2043
• Oceania launches their own set of STS ships, designed to 'carry' parts of the Earth with them, holding onto them until they can either return to Earth or find a new place to live
• IDK you know when you're like 'I wanna write a woman who was born on a spaceship and learns to be a gardener from elders in her community. She will tend plants for future generations that she will never see planted in soil that isn't mostly artificial, because her people won't reach ex-Earth or a new Earth in her lifetime, but she does the work anyway, because somebody will benefit' and then you realise you have to figure out how space politics work ughhhhhhh.
